For the Love of Christmas Cards

Over last week, just in time for Christmas,
my sister showered me with the loveliest bunch of
 homemade Christmas cards.
Eight cards in one week!

She knows how much I love to get Christmas cards to hang on my wall.
Since most people no longer send old fashioned traditional cards,
for years I have been saving cards to decorate my home.

A grand gift of love.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, lovely sister of mine!

The Most Puzzling Christmas Holiday

My daughter created a tradition, years ago: building a Christmas Eve puzzle.
This year we started before Christmas Eve with this 500 piece snowmen puzzle.
Although there were 500 pieces,
you might have noticed that one piece on the upper right window is missing,
while we had a duplicate of another piece.

Next we began this winter scene.
We first put this 1000 piece puzzle together during A Puzzling Weekend last Christmas.
This extremely challenging puzzle took us about as long to build this year as it did in 2016.

Finally, we got around to our 2017 Christmas Eve project: Churchyard Christmas.
In one delightful evening we had this 1000 piece puzzle together.

Now I am ready for another puzzle.

Happy winter days to you and yours!

A Little Bit of Christmas

Hammond's Retro Radio Peanut Brittle Tin

My sister sent this cute red radio tin to my daughter this month.
I looked for it online, but apparently it is no longer available for sale.
I did find one currently available on eBay. (It has 2 days and 19 hours left on it.)
I think it is too adorable, and I am happy to have it.

Old Sacramento Lighted Boat Parade

We had a pleasant view of the boat parade from the deck of the Delta King.
It was difficult getting clear photos.
But you can get an idea of how pretty the lighted boats are.
This one is the 007 (an automobile boat) - not a great photo; I know.
Hope you are enjoying a wonderful holiday season.

Decorating the Chrismas Tree

This year, I put the tree up with lights on it a couple of days before Thanksgiving Day. On another evening, I watched White Christmas and strung popcorn. I wanted it ready to decorate as soon as people were available.

Usually, I try to get it up and ready to decorate the day after Thanksgiving, but often I am so tired that I don't get it done until two to three days after Thanksgiving Day.

As it turned out, with everyone growing up and having different schedules, we only had the two oldest children home today to help decorate, and although we missed the other three, it was a delightful morning.

Happy Thanksgiving Day!

Thanksgiving Day Morning
Desserts are always for breakfast in our house on Thanksgiving Day.
I also set out some sausage cracker stuffing to balance out the sweetness.

Last Days of Summer

We had some visitors for the weekend.
They joined my husband and me on our 5:00 A.M. five mile morning walk.
There were 10 of us all together. I was surprise the EVERYONE was willing to get up at 4:45.
It was a morning to remember.

Velvet Bookmarks Inspired by Pinterest

I have been wanting to make these velvet ribbon bookmarks I have seen on Pinterest.
These are two that my daughter made.
Here are three that I made.
I like my daughter's better than my own.
I bought plenty of supplies to make many more.
Perhaps I will get better and more creative.

A Snowy Mountain Hike - Can you believe it's July!

We left the house around 6:40 A.M., and after stopping at McDonald's for breakfast, we began the two hour drive up to Carson Pass for our annual mountain hike.

Usually we see the mountainside covered in wild flowers with a few patches of snow. This year, there was so much snow that most of the way we could not even find the trail. Occasionally, we stumbled upon sections of it, only to lose it again under more snow.

However, all we had to do to reach Winnemucca Lake was to head in the direction of Round Top rising above it.

Winnemucca Lake Elevation: about 8999 ft.
It was a free fishing day, and the fellows had hoped to catch a few fresh mountain trout.
Alas, the banks of Winnemucca Lake were covered in icy snow.
All this snow made for a real adventure, a pleasant change from our regular hike.
