First Pumpkin Pie of the Season

On Saturday, my daughter picked a small pumpkin (one equal to two of these small pumpkins in this photo) from our back yard. I washed and cut it into two. She cleaned out the side. We baked it at 350 degrees for 1 hour. She removed the skin and measured out the pumpkin. We had exactly 2 cups of pumpkin. Just the right amount for a 9" pie.

We used this Joy of Cooking Pumpkin Pie Recipe. I have to say that this pie was so much tastier than making one from a can of pumpkin.

She made the pretty leaf decoration.

We had such a wonderful time baking together.

Happy Thanksgiving to all you Canadian ladies!

  1. Oh, my! Now that's wonderful! Not only to grow your own pie pumpkins, but for you to share this delightful moment with your daughter! I do appreciate you sharing with A Return to Loveliness

  2. How delicious that looks! And, you grow your own pumpkins! Love it! Thank you for sharing. Visiting from A Delightsome Life. Would love it if you would share this at my Make it Pretty Monday party at The Dedicated House. Hope to see you at the bash! Toodles, Kathryn @TheDedicatedHouse

  3. Hope, you are such a wonderful cook and baker, this pie looks incredibly tasty and as though it just popped out of the pages of a cookbook.

Thank you very much for the beautiful Thanksgiving Day wishes - may your October and autumn be blessed with happiness, serenity, and countless tasty morsels, too.

  4. What a wonderful pumpkin pie! I haven't made one yet this year. How nice to use you're own pumpkin! Love the photos. Thanks for your visit!

  5. Your pumpkin pie looks so delicious! I agree using a fresh pumpkin tastes much better than the can. Having a helper makes baking that much more fun! Have a wonderful week.

  6. Hi Hope,

Isn't it wonderful to spend some time baking in a cozy kitchen with your daughter? I cherish this and now that my daughter is an adult, we still bake together almost every weekend. Your pumpkin pie is perfect! You have a very pretty blog; good luck with it!

Thanks for stopping by and hope to see you again.

  7. Hi Hope,
I love homemade pumpkin pie and so much fun to have your daughter baking with you in the kitchen.
Thank you for following my blog and for your kind words. No need to feel guilty over using my pics from pinterest-there are quite a few of my older photos there that are not linked back(thank you for the link back on yours).
We enjoyed a lovely Thanksgiving with our family and before we know it Christmas will be here!
    Take care,

  8. YUM! I have never had "real" pumpkin pie before. I've always used the canned pumpkin. I bet this was delicious! I love pumpkin pie :) And it looks so beautiful! It's still chilly here in the mornings and we're using our wood burner stove every night and morning. There is just something about a fire that makes your home cozy. I love sitting by the fire and reading a good book with a cup of coffee and something sweet to eat:) Anyway, I hope you have a wonderful Tuesday.

  9. Your pie looks delicious, and it's pretty too. I haven't had pumpkin pie recently, but I'm in a baking mood so I think I'll need to get to that. It's great that you used a fresh pumpkin, too.

  10. It's been so long since I've made a pumpkin pie from pie pumpkins. The girls and I may need to do that this weekend!
